Old School Friday – On Saturday LOL!!!

I was really having a hard time for some reason thinking of remakes yesterday so I’m making up for it now. I’m not a criminal but I love “I Shot the Sheriff”.

The first track is the Eric Clapton arrangement that I first heard on the radio as a kid. Here’s a concert version of one of his 70′s hits.

It wasn’t until I was grown that I realized he had remade a Bob Marley jam. Here he is at his rasta best.

Enjoy these and save them on your YouTube favorites list.

Blagojevic Must Have A Really Good Drug Dealer…

…because he was obviously floating on some high octane narcotics to compare himself to Mandella, King and Ghandi on the Today Show this morning. Perspective? What the crap is he talking about? This clown is a total idiot!

Ew! I wanted to puke and run my fist thru the T.V. screen at the same time. I hope the impeachment committee in Illinois just goes ahead and finishes this guy off once and for all this week. Please end our misery and rid us of Rod.

Old School Friday – The Red Light District

This week’s theme for the Old School Friday meme is ‘Too Hot For Radio’. If you never listened closely to the lyrics of my pick for the day you wouldn’t have realized that the Police classic, Roxanne, was a song about a prostitute. The refrain, “you don’t have to put on the red light” refers to the way legalized prostitution is done in Northern Europe.

Sting and the boys would, no doubt, have walked through the red light districts in certain countries, at least out of curiosity, and noticed how the ladies of the night would pose in brothel display windows – yeah, like human manequins in a department store display – and turn on their red light in the window to indicate that they were ready for business.

Unfortunately the group known as polydorclassics who is apparently responsible for all of the Police’s YouTube material has disabled the embed feature so click on this YouTube link to listen to Sting try to convince Roxanne to give up her career of selling her body to the night.

Check out Villager, Mrs. Grapevine and others to see what they chose to carry you into the weekend. Click on her OSF MEME button on her menu bar across the top in case you’d like to see the rules for joining in the meme. Enjoy.

I Keep Forgetting We’re Not In Love Anymore

As heard on the Tom Joyner Morning Show this morning, another great St. Louisan, Michael McDonald. Didn’t know the lead singer of the Doobie Brothers was from the Gateway to the West did you? Enjoy the track.

Passing the Mantle

Believe it or not this one isn’t about President Obama although it is appropriate for the times. No, this post is about my Sunday school lesson from the beginning of the week. That’s when I learned the origin of the phrase “passing the mantle”. I take the text directly from my Sunday school book, “The Standard Lesson Commentary 2008-2009″. The phrase comes from the occasion when Elijah was taken to Heaven in a whirlwind and dropped his mantle (or cloak) to Elisha, who was going to succeed him as the leader of the prophets (2 Kings 2:11-13).

So now you know where that phrase comes from. Our teacher Rev. Grubbs gave us some good supporting scripture as usual. The one that stuck out to me for the morning was I Timothy 3:1-6 which deals with the proper preparation for and temperament of good leadership. We had a lively discussion about how to apply it to daily life especially as married Christian couples.

Naturally I can’t leave you without some musical accompaniment so how about a little Whitney Houston from 1996′s “The Preacher’s Wife” and picture Elijah hastening to His throne? God continue to bless you this new year and enjoy Bible Study tonight.

The Big Red Have Finally Made It to the Super Bowl

That’s what we called them when the team was still in St. Louis. The cheer was “Go Big Red!”. I can’t believe the Cardiac Cardinals are actually going. That was their other nickname they earned back in the day for pulling out victories at the last minute and giving us fans heart palpitations. You know, just like yesterday against the Eagles.

Larry Fizgerald celebrates NFC Title

I really can’t believe they did it under the clueless and cheap Bidwill family. The team was notoriously average in the Gateway City. That’s why I personally shed no tears when that mediocre organization moved to the desert. Must be the next generation that loosened up the purse strings because they are actually willing to pay for their talent now.

And how about Kurt Warner’s place in football history and trivia? I think he may be one of the few players to be on the rosters of the current and former teams of one city (Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams and St. Louis/Phoenix/Arizona Cardinals). Well, I know who I’m cheering for this year.

I’ll give them one more hurrah for the sake of childhood reminiscence as they face the Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII. Yeah, on Super Sunday I think a lot of us older former and current St. Louisans will be shouting loud and proud, GO BIG RED!!!

Have You Created Your Amazon.com Account?

If you’re looking for a profitable way to clear off your bookshelves, or clear out your book bag in the case of college students, here’s a good way to do it. Register with Amazon to help you move your stuff. So far I have sold two used text books and one from my personal collection. I have earned $130.75 and still have more than twenty other books listed. All this action within a week of setting up my Individual Seller account.

You can sell anything through the account. In my case it’s just books for now but you can sell just about any category of item that may be lying around your house. You also have to enter bank account information so Amazon can electronically deposit your profit. I actually have a company that I use as an umbrella for any number of profit making opportunities that may come my way and a bank account tied to it. Be sure to use your business account separately from your person account to avoid co-mingling of funds. Just as with anything in life, keep business matters and personal matters separate.

So how does it all work? When someone buys one of your products you get an email to ship it within two days. You can print a combination mailing label and packing slip for the order. I always cut the buyer’s mailing label off the top of the sheet of paper and tape it to the envelope. The rest of it is the packing slip that goes inside with the book. For my book inventory I keep various sized cushioned shipping envelopes on hand. I bought a few each of three different sizes to pack various sized books. Wal-Mart has the type made from recycled materials. Go green and go cheap on your expenses at the same time. Then ship it according to the time option chosen by the customer.

Now the main question of course is how do you create an Amazon account? Here’s how it’s done. Go to amazon.com and look for the New customer? Start here link at the top of the page. The next page will allow you to enter your e-mail address. Then you click on the No, I am a new customer button and enter a password.

From there you go to the bottom of the next page where Business Programs are listed. The first option, Sell on Amazon, is the one you’ll pick to get started. Then click the Click here link to sign up as an Individual Seller and you’re on your way. It is e-commerce made easy.

They also have other options if you have a larger company or if you’re an established entrepreneur. If you have sizeable inventory and you want to use their warehousing infrastructure then Fulfillment by Amazon is best. If you publish your own books, music or DVD’s then the Advantage is worth checking into. If you want to try cost-per-click bids then Product Adds are the thing. Or if you simply want your own e-commerce site then investigate Webstore by Amazon.

As you can see there are many options to choose from but it’s easiest to get a feel for things with the free Individual Seller account. Here’s what I’m doing with my account so far. When I’m ready to add an item, I simply locate the category I want from the menu, in my case books. Then I enter the ISBN number and if there is already a book image it will show up. If you’re the first person to list a particular title and it doesn’t show an image don’t worry. It will still list because it’s the ISBN that is the most important identifier for a book. From that point I set the price and quantity of each and I check the shipping options that I offer. There’s also a section for describing the condition of the book to help you market it.

After you have established an account, when you log back in for future sessions you can just click on the Your Account link in the right corner of the site and it will allow you to log in directly to the commerce section of the Amazon site. In the box to the right it will show you who you are signed on as, then in the Your Other Accounts box bellow it click on Your Seller Account and you’re back to it again.

That’s all there is to it. Whether you’re spring cleaning or looking for a new business venture I recommend an Amazon.com account to help you make it happen.

Welcome to Old School Friday, a meme created by the MarvelusOne and MsGrapevine. This week it’s your favorite song from your high school graduation year.

For me that means Senior Prom in 1986 and the theme was Luther’s “If Only For One Night”. Brings back memories of the Academy of Math and Science H.S. in St. Louis. Lean back, close your eyes and enjoy this live clip.

Want to join in on the fun? Hey, we want you to. Here are the rules on Ms. Marvelus’ site. Find your favorite track and hit us all back.
