Sunday Notes on Humility

We had some really good verses in Sunday School this morning. The title of this today’s lesson was Community of Humility. The point was to teach how we should live spiritually not just for our own sake but for others’ eternal benefit as well. One of the reference scriptures was Proverbs 16:18 which talks about the consequences of being “proud as a peacock” as we live our lives. This doesn’t apply just to the powerful but to us regular Joes and Joannes as well.

As we continued with our lesson a pretty weighty question was asked that actually has a simple, straightforward answer. The question was, are more people going to heaven or to hell? I initially thought that there’s no way to tell since you can never know how many will profess Jesus as their savior. But I had forgotten about Matthew 7:12-14 which makes it clear that it’s going to be a relatively short line to heaven in comparison to the world’s population. Keep verse 14 in mind if you don’t believe it.

The scripture that explains this further is II Corinthians 4:1 – 5 which tells us why some won’t make the choice of salvation. Satan is always on the job successfully distracting people from choosing the Lord. See verses 3 and 4 to understand this thought more clearly. The great redeeming part of this text is verse 5. It extolls the spirit of servanthood that we who are believers are to have in order to witness to others and help to save those who might otherwise suffer eternal damnation. As always it is incumbent upon us to share the Word in the way the Holy Spirit leads us so that more of the lost might actually be saved day by day.

Just wanted to share those thoughts with you today and hope that they can help edify you and anyone you may have the chance to witness to this week. What inspiring message or scriptures did you get from Sunday School or church service today? C’mon and share with us.

Have You Bought Your Boy Scout Popcorn (From My Son)?

What, didn’t you know the Boy Scouts of America have been selling popcorn as a fundraiser for more than twenty five years? Yeah, we sell popcorn in the fall just like the Girl Scouts sell cookies in the spring. Popcorn sales cover the expenses of camp and activities, badges and uniforms over the course of a Scouting year.

In addition to traditional sales methods our unit is incorporating online sales into our strategy this year. To that end my son would like for you guys to help him become the top salesman in our council. Go to orderpopcorn.com and type in his Order Key # TEECK2A and order your choice of microwave boxes or flavored cans. You can order them individually or by the crate and they will be delivered to your door. Entering his Order Key guarantees that he gets credit for your purchase.

Look at this link on merit badges directly related to the sales campaign. Or how about this page showing some of the camping equipment and other prizes they can win without coming out of their parents wallets and purses for huge expenditures. The Boy Scouts of America even helps the boys put funds aside for college if they sell at a high level.

Trails End popcorn is not only good for satisfying your own sweet tooth but they are really great as gifts for just about any occasion. Get a few selections for the next unusual birthday gift or for your desert contribution to the next potluck dinner. What does everybody like to munch on during the Super Bowl? Popcorn and chips. We’ve got the first one covered so go ahead and get your party supplies taken care of by the Scouts. Get a jump on the next few holidays – Thanksgiving, Christmas and Valentines – while you’re thinking about them and take care of a lot of people in tasty fashion.

This is an effective way and a fantastic opportunity for you to continue helping America’s young boys develop into strong, character filled young men. Please pass this post on to your friends as an email link and feel free to post on it in your own blogs. Not only will our unit appreciate it but my son really will.
