Is It Time for Virtual Assistance?

Shirley Frazier over at Solo Business Marketing has a good post on how to multiply yourself virtually and improve your efficiency and effectiveness. Don’t waste time on things that don’t build your business. Outsource it like the corporations do.

Time and effectiveness equal money for you just like for the heavy hitters. If you’ve ever outsourced website or blog design work to someone you’ve never met before then virtual assistance is merely an extension of that concept. You may even want Shirley to be an outsourced resource for you. But if not, definitely take a few of her tips on operating more effectively by doing it virtually.

Only Abstinence Can Beat These Statistics

Have you been reading about the alarming statistics about teenage girls and STD’s these days? Premarital sex has poisoned 25% of them. If the consequences of behavior could ever be made more obvious than this I can’t imagine what it would be. So much for safe sex and secular sex education in America. It’s killing us. And what immature teens do you know of who actually think about safety once they get hot and bothered?

If the rate of infection is 25% now where is it headed in the future when they pass their germs and viruses on to others in succeeding years? What about the up and coming generations of children and pre-teens? It’s a timely report because I just recently picked up a book addressing the appropriate way to talk about sex to your youngsters. It’s called What’s the Big Deal? Why God Cares About Sex , written by Stan and Brenna Jones and it addresses the Christian approach to the subject. If more parents had been reading series like his with their kids back in 1995 when it was published maybe the situation wouldn’t be so dire thirteen years later.

The “God’s Design for Sex” series a complete collection of books written appropriately for each age range of kid as you are grooming them on the subject. This one in particular is the 3rd edition for 8-11 year olds. This paragraph from the review section of the Amazon order page outlines it succinctly.

“You know what sex is. You’ve heard other kids joking about it, and maybe you’ve seen actors talking about it on TV. But you probably still have some questions, and that’s great-because What’s the Big Deal? was written to help kids like you, ages 8-11, find the answers you need. What’s the Big Deal? explains the basic facts about sex and such related issues as: 1) Why God made adults so that they want to have sex; 2) Why God designed sex to be shared only within marriage; 3) What God actually says about sex in the Bible; 4) The amazing changes ahead of you during puberty; and 5) How to respond when you feel sexual pressure from peers, TV shows, movies, and magazines. Your parents will read this book with you or discuss it with you as you read it on your own. They’ll answer any leftover questions you might have and help you understand what a beautiful and exciting gift from God your sexuality is meant to be.”

You can see that the book covers all the key points in the sex discussion but there were a few sections that impressed me in particular.

Page 19 of chapter 1 has the parents telling their imaginary son how a man and woman who never have sex with anyone except each other have practically no chance of being harmed by sexual diseases that are becoming more common by the day. The mother emphasizes how the world gives casual sex way too much importance which elevates it to idolatrous levels.

In the chapter, “Why Can’t I Do That?” the dad explains how God made men and women different on purpose.It was to help them share their bodies to bring them closer to each other in order to reinforce their love to each other. It’s a gift from God specifically for that purpose.

The son asks the condom/safe sex question in the “What is AIDS chapter” based on conversations with friends. Mom points out the fallacies of “safe sex” with the facts that people still get sexually transmitted diseases and become pregnant when condoms tear or are otherwise misused.

In the “What Does Gay Mean?” chapter the dad tells the daughter that God meant for men and women to fall in love particularly to have children. Men can’t do that with each other and women can’t do that with each other. The hard questions are why do homosexuals feel that way? and why do they act that way? The dad also correctly says that homosexuality and the homosexual lifestyle is a sin to be dealt with and that we aren’t to hate or condemn gays any more than anyone else because God’s love extends to everyone.

Chapter 9 is “God’s Response to Wrong” and deals with consequences of our choices. Man I wish parents would continue teaching this into puberty and not just leave it to early childhood. Leaving sex for marriage is at it’s simplest, a matter of Godly obedience. Using it outside of that context is wrong and even though God will always continue to love and forgive us he won’t make the bad things disappear and heal the diseases when we do it our way.

This chapter also deals with the ongoing, lifelong issues directly connected with youthful indiscretions including the practical and psychological consequences of abortion, teens marrying because of pregancy and typically having very unsuccessful marriages, and the young father and mother potentially dropping out of school to help care for the child.

The 11th chapter deals with “Sexual Abuse” and here the imaginary parents talk to the children about protecting themselves from inappropriate touching. Teach your kids to say no and to tell someone that they are going to tell their parents if they don’t stop. It addresses not falling for threats and lies that abusers like to tell to have their way.

You should really check into Stan and Breanna Jones’ complete collection of books for kids on the subject of sex. They are written in age appropriate style to fit the level of maturity for your children. I plan on having the entire collection and I recommend you do the same.

Saturday Love Grooves

Anybody else out there have slow jams on the brain? O.K. got a little somethin’ for ya.

I have always loved one particular song by LTD. Jeffrey Osbourne has released a lot of material over the years but Love Ballad is the one that brought him stardom. Here’s a concert track to get you started.

To keep things in context, let me go “unslow-jam” for a minute. Have to show you where Jeffrey came from. Here’s an old LTD clip. Check the brass section throwing down some moves with the beats. Every great 70′s group had a good horn section and this old Soul Train clip shows you how good popular music was actually made more than 30 years ago.

But to get back on the original pace, a slow jam mindset always puts me in an Isley Brothers kinda mood. This is another one I always imagined myself dropping on the girls as a kid if I ever had any rap – I never did. There were few groups who were as smooth as and who’s music matched that smoothness like the Isley’s and Footsteps In the Dark always made me feel cool in my mind. Let me take you back a few years with this soul classic.

Wait a minute. Can’t leave this one hanging by itself. Double shot of Ronnie and bros to continue the theme.

If those album covers don’t take you back nothing will. So what are your favorite LTD, Jeffrey Osbourne and Isley Brothers hits? Share some memories and some vids.

Situational Justice Rears its Ugly Head Again (And It’s Another One of Hillary’s Friends)

Eliott Spitzer has to be the biggest idiot in the country right now. Fortunately he is also New York’s “ex-Governor” but he is still working overtime to get off the hook. He should have been trying to get off the hooker. Wait a minute, that’s exactly how he got in trouble isn’t it? I digress.

Back to my point. I know every state and city has their own laws and legal precedents but you have to look at the bigger national picture of the legal system under which we live when such a high profile crimes take place. It’s the only way to get a full scale perspective on this particular facet of American life.

Now, having written this as a starting premise, I have a question. If Elliot (I don’t mess with those nasty street ho’s, only the high quality tricks for me) Spitzer gets a free pass from prosecution then doesn’t everyone need to shut the heck up about Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick? And doesn’t Marion Barry needs to be released from prison yesterday?

C’mon now. I’ll be dog-gone if Kilpatrick can be unseated AND be considered for prosectution for normal cheating and Spitzer goes free. Yes, Kwame’s indiscretion is immoral and totally wrong. I don’t support or endorse such stupidity but it is not illegal. Hooking, which is just high-end prostitution, is illegal, and involves organized crime more often than not. But Eilliot wants to get away with it and have us believe that a resignation is good enough. Can you believe he is seriously trying to disregard his own image he created for himself and have the rest of us be dumb enough to think that actually makes sense? Man, he must really think you New Yorkers are stupid. Are you going to let him get away with that?

Of course good old Elliot is also supposed to be one of HELLary Clinton’s superdelegates too. And can she really afford to continue shooting off her big mouth when everyone associated with her from Spitzer to Geraldine Ferraro continue to contract hoof-in-mouth disease on a weekly basis now? Yeah, I made that tie-in. Yeah, it matters. Fortunately Geraldine had to step down from the campaign trail too. Hillary is clearing the bench. Any more subs left to play the game? I digress again.

Well I’m going to leave it at that for now. Gotta’ write a “hang in there” note to Kwame and send a care package to Marion. They need to know that even though they made some incredibly stupid decisions and due process “is being” and “was kicked to the curb” in their cases, somebody is still thinking about how the letter and spirit of law applies to EVERYONE. In the mean time somebody make sure Elliot keeps his soldier in the barracks. If he thought he was paying for a high end ride before, he is definitely in for one heck of a ride for the forseable future.

Am I missing something here people? Talk to me.

The Southern Strategy Goes NorthEast

Can Hillary Clinton really afford to continue shooting off her big mouth when everyone associated with her continues to contract the stupid gene on a weekly basis now?

I’m talking about Geraldine Fararro. Even Rush Limbaugh couldn’t miss this one yesterday. As much as he hates everything about liberalism he made a heck of an observation today. All the bigwig Democrats who run the party like to give great lip service to affirmative action, opportunity for all and civil liberties until it stares “them” in the face. Specifically white Democrats aren’t taking it too well that an African American man is about to take the big chair. And you can count on somebody going plumb crazy regularly these days.

Clinton’s tactics are obvious to most African Americans because many of us have been following her ongoing race baiting southern strategy ever since South Carolina. Her surrogates haven’t let up and she doesn’t always seem to be too quick to make them stop. Fortunately Geraldine had to step down and go on her merry way. But there’s probably plenty more ignorance and arrogance where that came from. Read the CNN link above and see if you believe Ferarro’s excuses for her comments.

Seriously now, how long are you Clinton supporters going to continue to fall for this evil woman’s ongoing trick bag? You’re sure this is the woman you want running your country? I don’t want her running mine. Not if this is the type of mess she’s going to be plotting at three o’clock in the morning.

What can we expect from team Clinton next? God only knows and God help the country.

Amber Alert Criteria

Deidra Robey over at the Black & Missing but Not Forgotten blog writes about African American women and children who are abducted and endagered but don’t get the same scale of media coverage as white youngsters who go missing. She writes in detail about the disparities in coverage in these unfortunate situations.

I asked Deidra to give some background on the Amber Alert process for kids and she sent this link from the U.S. Department of Justice. Paste it into your favorite links and remain informed. More importantly take a look at Black and Missing but Not Forgotten from time to time and stay apprised. And if you see the culprits in any of these cases please inform local law enforcement as soon as possible.

Let Your Blog Chew on Some Chicklets

I found a link that lets you add RSS feed reader buttons (a.k.a. “chicklets”) to your site. Go to Top Rank Online Marketing’s blog site and create an account. It will let you check the brands of feeds you want to have for your readers. Then it generates an HTML script based on your selection that you can copy and paste into your site.

For those of you who already have a chicklet library give me some feedback. Which ones are the most popular or recommended to have? They all look good. I was going to cruise thru some of you guys sites that I read regularly and see what you have. Any thoughts on web sites with articles on the subject or is a random selection of 5-10 a good way to start?

Kick Off Your Day With Some Tom Browne Funk

Today’s Tuesday Tunes features a couple of my favorite songs from the early 80′s. I always knew that Tom Browne wrote Funkin’ For Jamaica. I believe I’ve even featured him here before but I didn’t realize until recently that he made another funky song with some stroooong bass from back in the day. I’m going to share a double shot of jams to help you groove into the rest of the week.

You can never actually have “too much” of Funkin’ For Jamaica so here’s Tom and the band with their first big hit from 1981.

Jamaica Funk… that’s what it is
let it get into you
C’mon I’ve got a groove… you know where I’ll be…
Funkin for Jamaica…
If ya feel it… let it get into you
Jamaica funk that’s what it is
let it get into you

I feel it… inside my soul
let it get into you
Cause there’s enough to go all the way around
let it get into you… let it fill you up inside
This feelin’s funk that’s what it is
let it get into you
Jamaica funk that’s what it is… baby come funk with me
we-be funkin for Jamaica
If ya feel it…
and I let it get into me…
Jamaica funk that’s what it was…
let it get into you…
That feelin’s funk that’s what it was…
and I let it get into me… I let it get into me
woa woa woa this feelin’s funk… that’s what it is
baby come funk wit me…
Baby come funk… Funk

O.K. now that you’ve gotten funky with Jamaica all over again, doesn’t it make you want to grip some hips and move? That’s right, the song “Thighs High” is on that same album from ’81. Couldn’t scrounge any lyrics so you can have fun seeing if you remember them accurately. If you find a web page send me the link, I’ll update this post and we’ll see how good our memories are.

Anyway, here’s Tom and crew one more ‘gain with “Thighs High”.

Have any other Tom Browne faves? C’mon and share them with the rest of us.
