I borrowed a couple of subtitle headings from today’s Sunday school lesson for my post title. We didn’t get to all of these verses because we had plenty of good discussion on the first four but here’s a snap shot of one of my favorite sections of the old testament, Isaiah chapter 55. God is using the great prophet to foreshadow events that wouldn’t occur for another 100 years, the future Babylonian invasion, defeat and captivity. It’s a great lesson about group choices and widespread consequences to all of those around you.

5 Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not thee shall run unto thee, because of the Lord thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee.

(This foretells the inclusion of Gentiles - we modern day Christians - into God’s grace and related blessings at the coming of the Messiah)

6 Seek yee the Lord while he may be found, call you upon him while he is near.

7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and let the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.

9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

(Unfortunately the Israelites wouldn’t listen and change their life styles or life choices and the consequences had to come)

But what  great God we serve who would give us fair warning, even a century ahead of time!

What are the implications for you and yours, here and now? We’re not always guaranteed a head start. Will you be wise enough to choose Him today?
