The Black Church and HIV

What is your church doing to combat HIV/AIDS? Alabama has acquired one of those “Little Africa” reputations because of the widespread incidence of HIV and AIDS among the African American population in the state. No amount of sex education, moral education or spiritual education seems to have taken hold of the people.

What is your church doing to combat the problem where you live? The Health Ministry at our church is participating in the 8th Annual Our Church Lights the Way: The Black Church HIV Testing Campaign. AIDS testing will be conducted on Sunday, June 24, 2007 beginning at 1:00PM in our Family Life Center.

I’m really proud of our Health Ministry which is lead by a couple of RN’s and other church members. They have done some really innovative things this year beyond your normal blood drives etc. This effort only enhances my respect for them.

If you’re in or around the Lee County area that weekend come on by Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday the 24th and bring some friends. As always God bless and keep you and yours.
